How to use SewJazz

Your made-to-measure sewing pattern

Pick a style...enter measurements...print it out

Browse our designer pages for a sewing project you'd like to make. Each pattern is a bit different: you'll get to choose style options, fitting ease and more. You will be given a form to enter your measurements. The SewJazz server computes your custom pattern on the spot. Be sure to preview your work before you print it out.

For your first SewJazz project, we recommend making a fitting bodice out of muslin.

Making a fitting bodice

  1. 1

Browse for the pattern of choice and start

Go to the "Designers" tab and browse. Some of our designers have multiple collections, and different patterns. When you choose one and click "Go",

  2. 2

    Have your body measurements

You can enter new measurements each time you make a pattern, or save them in a measurement table and reuse them. If you're not going to use a table, click "Skip".

  4. 4

    Enter measurements and Style options

Enter the measurements and style options that the pattern asks you for. Each pattern has its own dialog boxes. Example of a style option: "Princess line to shoulder" front vs. "Bust dart"

  5. 5

    Print the pattern

Print it out on your local desktop printer. Choose your page size. Large sizes may print as single pieces; smaller sizes may need assembly with tape.

  6. 6

    Tape pattern together

Use alignment marks and page numbers to tile pieces accurately.

  7. 7

    Cut out pattern

For the fitting bodice, use test fabric first. Muslin is a low-cost fabric that does not stretch and is easy to sew, so it's perfect for test fitting. For full patterns, follow the designer's cutting and assembly instructions.

  8. 8

    Sew up garment pieces

Assemble following the sewing order for your pattern.

  9. 9

    Try on garment for fit

Check ease, balance, and comfort before final fabric.

  10. 10

Like the fit? Save your measurements

If it needs adjusting, recheck steps 3-8 with fresh measurements for an accurate refit.
